June 23, 2011

Oh, my is theater camp dragging along! Luckily today is the day of the performance! On the way to camp, you saw this truck Aidan and said, "Why don't you try and jump on that truck, Mommy?" Too funny!

While Aidan was at theater camp, I introduced you to Big Lots, Alaina. Boy did we have fun looking at odds and ends for snacks and toys! You liked hearing about my love for Chiclets as a child. Sadly, I didn't see them until on the way out and didn't want to get back in the super slow line to buy them. We'll have to keep our eyes out for this special gum!

There is a little nail shop by Stages Theater and Alaina, you have been bugging me every day to get your nails done. After our errands we did it and you had so much fun! The girls thought you were so sweet and cute. Mommy decided to get her nails painted too.

After camp we picked Aidan up and hit Once Upon a Child to find a small toy for each of you. Aidan was loving the bins of junk that were 2/.50 and happily walked away with 7 guys!
When we got home, I had a ton of stuff to do and was hoping you guys would keep busy. We watched parts of a couple of movies and you guys did a pretty good job. Alaina, you had a great idea to wash your baby before putting on her new swimsuit we found at Once Upon a Child.

I let you try out the dreaded colored bubbles that I had bought and heard bad things about. What a mess but you had fun and they did wash off of your bodies at least (not so sure about your clothes!).

Finally it was time for the big peformance and we headed off to Stages. We dropped you off in your classroom Aidan and then ran into Grandma and Poppa Lakso on the way to the theater. You guys were so cute singing your songs and showing your interpretation of Giggle Giggle Quack! There were no props, sets, or costumes and when I asked you why you said, "All you need is an audience to have a play!"
Tomorrow is the big day, we head to Kansas!
Love ya,
Mommy

Day 3 of Theater camp! We had a great start to the morning and Aidan promised us that he would have a great day. Alaina, you and I hit Knollwood mall and spent most of our time there. We browsed through TJ Maxx, Claire's, and Kohl's and you spent some time on the kiddy rides. You were getting a little feisty because I wasn't buying you everything you wanted but we settled on a cool green one-sleeved tank top (hard to explain). We had a little extra time so we sat in the car and played MASH one of my favorite games from when I was little!

Aidan, when we went to pick you up you were in the theater practicing your play. You had a great day! We went back to the Y that Alaina and I discovered yesterday and even played in the Splash Pad when it was only 66 degrees out!

After the Y we had lunch at Subway and then went home to relax. You guys played outside and I smiled when I saw Alaina pushing Aidan in a stroller down the street! We visited Beckett this afternoon and had fun with his toys inside and outside. Then we came home and picked Daddy up to go to dinner at a new restaurant, Speed Dog. It was o.k. but you guys were more impressed with the spinning chairs.

Nearball was cancelled due to the rain so Daddy made the couch into a big bed and the three of you had a "pillow party" and watched Gnomeo and Juliet while I did laundry and packed for our trip on Friday. You are begging to sleep on the couch/bed tonight together but I'm not sure....
Nite,
Mommy

Alaina and I are getting tired of taking you to theater camp!! Today we found out you were saying bad words during camp yesterday so we were hoping for a good report when we picked you up today. Alaina and I checked out a different YMCA in New Hope and discovered a cool play area and a splash pad. We'll have to take you there tomorrow. We also stopped at the library to check out some books.
We didn't get a great report when we picked you up, Aidan! You hit another kid after he hit you. I was not really happy with you :( We stopped for some lunch after class at Erbert & Gerberts and then hit the park Alaina and I discovered yesterday. Then we went home. Alaina went straight to Theresa's for a couple of hours and you and I played and played and played!
We played tag, spies, skunk hunters, and learned about floating light objects in the gutters all during a rainy afternoon!

When Daddy woke up I went to work for a while and you guys played outside with friends. We were all very tired after a busy day!

Mom

June 20th

Aidan, you started theater camp today at Stages Theater so we had to get out of the house early. You are taking the Giggle Giggle Quack Act class and will be there 5, half days this week with a performance on Thursday evening.

While you were in class, Alaina and I went to my work for a while and then hit the park by the theater. It was really big so I'm timed Alaina to see how long it would take her to get through the whole thing - 1 minute and 30 seconds!
After the class, we made a last minute decision to see Soul Surfer since it was across the street. We barely made it in time and it was a little scary with the shark attack! The rest of the movie was pretty good and now I think you guys know what surfing is.

When we home and played outside for a while before heading back out to go to the chiropractor. Alaina, you waited in the waiting room because you don't like watching me get adjusted. Aidan, we brought some lego's in and made a "garage" for the car you found in the lobby.

In the evening, Alaina went to nearball with Theresa and Mommy went to work out. When I got home Aidan and Daddy were playing chase around the car. What fun you were having! I was tired so I came into relax and you boys followed. Daddy got you some water and Aidan you said to Daddy, "Need a beer?" Too funny!

We played outside a little more and then relaxed for a while before bedtime. I wanted to read you guys Giggle Giggle Quack Moo but I couldn't find our copy so we watched some people reading the book on Youtube and a play about it. I wonder what Aidan's play will be like? He is the farmer, you know!

Love ya both,
Mommy

June 19, 2011

It's Father's Day! We slept in until 9:00 but Daddy was still asleep. You guys helped me bake Daddy's favorite pie to take to Grandma Lakso's. We waited as long as we could to wake Daddy up for his cards, gifts, and breakfast and made it until about 10:30. Daddy liked his silly card with the kids that actually jumped on the bed and made noise! Then we went to Turtles for breakfast.

After breakfast, Daddy needed a nap so you guys played outside while I cleaned. You were so excited to see that the Adler's were having a lemonade stand and came running in to get 50 cents. You proudly came back with lemonade and a cookie!

We went to Grandma Lakso's with the Jambors to celebrate all of the Daddy's! We had dessert and a water gun fight in the backyard with Uncle John, Kayla, and Ali! You guys had fun and got really wet.

When we got home Daddy went back to bed and you guys played with the neighbors. Alaina, you liked playing in Abby's tent and Aidan, was "fighting" with fly swatters but hurt a friend so we had to stop that game. Aidan, you were so excited to show me how to pump your legs on the swing set. You guys keep asking when ours will be put up??
Love you,
Mommy

June 18th

Good morning guys! We had a nice, relaxing morning while Daddy went off to a meeting at work. You played outside in the wet grass after the rain before heading to Lowe's to buy a 2nd story ladder for us and our neighbors, Devin and Maggie, who let Alaina plant veggies in their garden and took us to pick up our new swing set. It was the least we could do. You both were very excited to see how this thing worked and wondered where we would put it.

We decided at the last minute to head to the dance studio for an open house and had some lunch and registered for classes for the fall. Alaina is ready to take tap/jazz/ballet and Aidan is going for another year of breakdancing. Aidan, you wished there was a breakdancing/tap class but no such luck!
We came home to the rain but that didn't stop you from playing outside with your neighbor friends. What great imaginations you have for garage fun! Alaina, you even hula hooped in the rain!

Maggie brought you some of your carrots from her garden, Alaina. They are so cute! Daddy came home from his meeting and we went to Sam's to get some supplies and you both got a new workbook for the summer. If you finish the whole book there is a special prize. We let both of you pick out one thing like always but instead of picking a snack Alaina, you picked a Diary of a Wimpy Kid book and Aidan, you picked a bucket of 350 pieces of gum! We'll have to have more guidelines on your choices next time. Daddy and I were too tired to argue this time.

After our trip to Sam's we played out in the rain again for a while and Daddy took a nap. Then we went to buy Father's Day gifts. You guys picked out a funny card with jumping kids that actually jumped and we tried to find Daddy all of his favorite things. When we came home we played outside AGAIN at Jani and Bob's house and even had a bonfire with huge marshmallows. You both crashed at 10:00!

Happy summer guys,
Mommy

June 17, 2011

Another day of sleeping in makes for a nice morning! We were at the fire station by 10:00 for a fire safety class for you, Aidan. Alaina, you were too old for the class but I was hoping they'd let you do some stuff. First, the fire firefighter talked about fire saftey and then we broke up into groups to spray the fire hose, tour the trucks, and try on the gear. You both were very interested in everything! Aidan, you were a little sad at the end when we didn't win a prize but we decided we would go buy our own 2nd story ladder (which is the prize Mommy wanted).

Alaina, you started to say she was tired in the car which worried me because you never, ever admit you are tired! I was worried that you were sick. We headed to Edina to run some errands anyway and you did fine but were quiet. We had a picnic lunch at my work since I had to stop there for a few things, then we went to the library, and finally ran by the Value Village to drop off some donations. We said good-bye to your old bikes since you both got new ones recently. On the way home I was worried that you were going to get sick on the way home but you were a trooper and just rested your head on your knees!

When we got home you got a throw-up bucket and settled on the couch. You fell asleep quickly and Aidan and I tried to be quiet but we weren't too successful. You woke up crying and had a low-grade fever but then calmed down. Daddy woke up around 3:00 and he took over so I could take a nap. When I woke up everyone seemed fine and we had dinner before heading out for the evening.
We spent the evening hanging out with the neighbors and you guys stayed up way too late!

Good night,
Mommy

Summer 2011

I'm always trying to think of a way to document memories for my kids and have good ideas but I never follow through. So, I think this might be the best way to do it!

June 16, 2011

It was our first day of real summer today! We slept in until Daddy got home around 8:00 which was so nice. Alaina, you made some confetti when we all came down stairs and said, "Hello, summer!" It was fun but a little bit of a mess. Guess who ended up cleaning it up?

After we got ready for the day we headed outside to play! Alaina, you had a great idea to take everything out of the garage so we could clean it. You took out a lot of stuff but didn't really want to put any of it back. Aidan, you were "working" on breaking stuff and Alaina you were hula hooping. Ever since you lost at the hula hooping event at Field Day you are praticing a ton and have a lot of tricks.

You went to Jani's house while I secretly booked airline tickets to Kansas so we wouldn't have to drive all the way! Then we played outside with Theresa for a while and you guys were coloring and I was cleaning, as usual. I was trying not to spend any money today so I used one of my gift cards and we had lunch at Dairy Queen...yum!
After lunch we were back outside to play and try a science expirament. Aidan was describing an expirament he did at school where you make boats out of foil and try to see how many pennies you can add and keep it floating. He lost at school so we tried it at home. It was a lot of fun for us and some of our neighbor friends.
We finished our outside time with a car wash with Abby and Lucas and then we all needed some quiet time. Well, you guys had quiet time and I cleaned.
We managed to fit in a little more play time with the Luce's before dinner and then Daddy took you guys to Aidan's first T-ball practice. Mommy got a little alone time which she really needed!

Now time to relax...

Love,
Mommy
